What aircraft you will be flying

You will be flying in the ACA Citabria (airbatic spelt backwards!). It’s a tailwheel aircraft and regarded by many as the aircraft of “real” pilots, and arguably one of the best aircraft to learn to fly in.  And SUPER fun.

It is tandem style seating and you will be sitting in front of your instructor.  The aircraft is equipped with dual controls which means your instructor has controls and so do you.

Trial instructional flights in other aircraft types can be arranged.  Different pricing applies.

What to expect

• Arrive at Curtis Aviation (Camden Airport, Sydney) 15 mins before scheduled time to settle in and for the necessary pre-flight instructional briefing and pre-flight inspection. The time duration shown in package is for engine on and flying time in the aircraft.
• Once airborne, you will receive flying instruction and at the right time your instructor will invite you to take the controls. This can depend on conditions and a number of other factors.  (If you decide you’re not comfortable taking the controls, that is totally OK too.)
• You may want to also allow a few minutes for a quick debrief chat with your instructor following the flight.

Where to meet

Curtis Aviation is located at Hangar 56, Camden Airport, Camden NSW 2570.  Lots of parking available.

What to wear/bring

• Comfortable clothing and closed in shoes or runners, and please bear in mind you will need to climb in and out of an aircraft. (No high heels, thongs or sandals permitted).  Also bring along sunglasses and a hat, baseball or bucket style is perfect.
• Plain water in a plastic bottle is OK (no glass, food or any other type of drink)

• Trial instructional flights are strictly for one person only plus an instructor as it is an instructional flight. If you are wanting to fly as a group, we have fantastic Scenic Flight packages you’re going to love.

Special conditions

• One trial flight offered per person
• For safety, the amount of time you’ll be permitted to fly is at the discretion of your instructor

Minimum age

• Although there is no age minimum for a trial instructional flight, ours are best suited to people over the age of 14, however we can take people as young as 12. We generally recommend our other Scenic Flight options with an adult for younger flyers.  (If you are booking for someone under 14, please chat with us first to ensure your chosen package is suitable.)
