If you’re after the perfect navigation trainer, you’re going to love VH-JAZ, our 1984 Piper Warrior PA-28.  It’s one of two Piper Warriors in our fleet, with a proven design that is one of the few general aviation aircraft of it’s vintage still in production today.

VH-JAZ is an ideal aircraft for relaxed touring and sight-seeing, and is equipped for night flying.

What are the features of a Piper Warrior II PA28?

The Piper Warrior is a four seat, low wing, single engine airplane equipped with fixed tricycle landing gear, having a steerable nose wheel and two main wheels.  The door is on the co-pilot side (right side), and you enter the aircraft by stepping onto the wing.

What kinds of flight training is a Piper Warrior used for?

Here at Curtis Aviation, VH-JAZ is considered as one of our favourite training all-rounders.  We use it for cross-country training as part of the Private Pilot Licence and it is also used for some of our advanced training.

It’s also a great choice for personal use and aircraft hire because it is safe, economical and a lot of fun to fly.

VH-JAZ, in particular, has seen more of Australia than you could imagine, and continues to be a featured aircraft in our famous Air Safari trips for commercial pilots wanting to build up flying hours and private pilots after a flying experience of a lifetime.  (Air Safari 2022 will be flying to Gold Coast, Airlie Beach, Horn Island and Longreach and other amazing destinations.)

Flying a Piper Warrior II

The Piper Warrior is a trusted classic.  Many people find the Piper Warrior II PA-28 a safe-feeling and pleasant aircraft to fly, and during a cross-wind some even say handling is a bit easier compared to a high winged aircraft.

How fast is a Piper Warrior II PA-28?

For a Piper Warrior II PA-28-161, you’re looking at a maximum speed of 127 knots (or 235.2 km/hr), with a normal cruise speed of 118 knots and an economy cruise of 108 knots.  The rate of climb is 710 feet per minute (or around 216.4 metres per minute).

The maximum flying range is 590 nautical miles or 1092.7 kms

…………..….that’s further than Sydney to Melbourne which is 384.96 nm!

And if looks count for anything, it really is no wonder this aircraft has stood the test of time.
